The Safety Program Goals
o We expect a safe workplace with participation from everyone to reduce injuries.
o A way of saying "Thank You" for looking out for yourself, your work mates, and making the company a great place to work.
o Developing accountable leaders.
o Promoting safe work behaviours and practices.
Criteria
Our award program is based on the following:
o When an employee (and their work crew) works 160 safe hours, they will get 4000 points deposited into their safety point account. Those points will accumulate unless there is a recordable incident that occurs on the same crew or to the individual, or there is a disciplinary issue that results in the loss of points
o If there is a recordable incident, any points in the point account will be moved to a Holding account, and the main point account will be reset to zero. The employee has 180 days to spend their holding account points. In the event of multiple holding account values, they must be spent separately.
o In order to be remain eligible to redeem award points under this award program, the employee must be an active employee, or be on lay off status. If an employee is on lay off status, they will have six (6) months from their last day of work to redeem their unused points. If an employee has quit with notice, they will have thirty (30) calendar days to redeem their unused points. If the employee has quit without notice or has been dismissed all unused safety points are forfeited immediately.
o Safety award points can not be transferred to someone else, nor can they be pooled with someone else’s.
o They are classed as a “near cash” benefit, and are deemed to be a taxable benefit. The taxable benefit value is based on the dollar value of the item.
An employee’s points available are printed on their pay stub, or they can contact their office and speak to the individual in charge of the Safety Award program. |
